Modern Middle Eastern History

This course is a survey of the history of the Middle East and North Africa from the rise of the Ottoman Empire to the present. The course purpose is to provide the cadet a basic knowledge of the region’s political, economic, social and cultural history. The course will also cover contemporary ideologies and trends in the Middle East. Topics such as Zionism, Pan-Arabism, and Fundamentalism will receive a substantial coverage. Major conflicts such as the Arab-Israeli conflict, the Iran-Iraq War and the Gulf War will be discussed in detail.
